Parakeets are one of the most attractive species of birds, but to maintain their health it is important to give them a series of special cares, including choosing the space well for them to live and develop. The cage in which your parakeet will live must be special, taking into account the characteristics of this species.
Here we give you the keys so that you know how to choose the cage for your parakeet.

Steps to follow:

1. Choose a large cage with space. In general, most species of parakeets require life as a couple, that is, you will have to buy 2. As they must go inside the same cage, look for one with space for both. If you choose to have only one, choose one that is spacious, as the animal can get sick due to lack of space.

2. Parakeets are birds that when scared look for corners. That is why it is important to choose wide, rectangular cages. This way, avoid round or mansion-shaped cages, no matter how beautiful they may seem to be seen.

3. Try to let your parakeet loose every day for a few minutes. It is the best way for them to exercise their wings. Do not fear as these do not have the wings developed enough to fly away, they will not escape. If you have space, give them a very large cage that they can fly into.

4. Put some kind of horizontal handle or stick on it. Parakeets are birds that love to climb. This will help them stay healthy and feel in the right environment, which is very important to them.

5. Find a cage with a bar spacing of about 1 cm. If it is older, they can escape; if it is smaller they can get their legs and beak trapped. Avoid white bars as they make it difficult for them to see outside.

6. Look for feeders that are open and inside the cage. This will prevent them from sticking their heads into holes where they can get caught. Place as many as there are parakeets in your cage. They will mark their own territory and will not fight at mealtime.

7. Add tube drinkers for the same reason as above. You must be very attentive and clean them every day so that substances or herbs do not accumulate that dirty the area and with which they can get sick.

8. Do not put plastic perches in the cage. Take natural branches of the trees, which, being irregular, will favour the movement and circulation of the parakeets’ legs.
